Phase 3: Maintenance

Week 13+PEN 25%
⚕ Clinical notice: This is general guidance. It must be individualised to the person’s needs, tolerance, disease phase and treatment. It does not replace advice from their doctor or dietitian.

Phase goal

The aim is to sustain remission with an individualised maintenance plan. Increasing variety does not mean an unrestricted diet or guarantee sustained remission. Food reintroduction depends on the adopted protocol and clinical assessment.

Allowed Foods

The variety of fruit, vegetables, legumes, meat, fish and grains is expanded according to the individual plan. Portions and textures require review, especially with strictures; this is not permission for unlimited consumption.

Keep excluding fast food, processed meats, ready-made meals, frozen dough and soft drinks. Also exclude persimmon, pomegranate, prickly pear, passion fruit, raw celery, leeks and large amounts of kale. These food restrictions are not an instruction to stop the prescribed formula.

"Free Meals"

Key concept of the CDED protocol

In the schedule described, Saturday and Sunday each allow one flexible breakfast and one flexible lunch or dinner: 4 meals in total. Follow the weekday diet for the remaining meals. The restaurant option replaces one day’s two flexible meals; it is not an extra allowance. Confirm with your team whether this calendar is appropriate for you.

Prioritise home cooking. For eating out, consult the Phase 3 restaurant section and agree the plan with your team. Fast food and ultra-processed foods remain excluded in this website’s schedule.
